JOB SUMMARY
•The Certified Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled health care professional who works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide quality health care to the population served.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
• Obtaining and documenting vital signs.
• Preparing patients for examinations and performing routine screening tests, phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
• Performs basic lab tests, performing EKGs, preparing and administering medications according to regulatory standards, purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment.
• Filing and maintaining medical records.
• Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
• Effectively utilizes down time to offer assistance and interact with patients, families and assist other staff with patient care activities.
• Functions with a focus on patient safety and customer service, and applies infection control practices effectively and consistently.
• Accurately documents patient care activities in a timely manner, and keeps the Registered Nurse well informed of patient status, activities, and issues.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Educational Requirements
o High School Diploma/Equivalent preferred
o Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assisting.
• Licensure, Certification and Registration
o Current CPR
o Certification as a Medical Assistant
• Work Orientation and Experience
o Certified Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Accurately takes and records vital signs, weight, and height, etc.
• Demonstrates a highly compassionate and customer oriented approach to care and service
• Demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
• Supervision Received
o Under the direct clinical supervision of the Outpatient Medical Staff within the guidelines of the Outpatient Department policies and with the guidance of the policies of MWPH and according to regulatory standards. Reports administratively to the Director of Outpatient Operations and Clinical Services.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• Regular, direct contact with patients, their families, outpatient staff, outpatient physicians and support ancillary staff from other departments.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
• Computer terminal/keyboard, fax machine, copier, centrifuge.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
• Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to the emergency situations or multiple demands.
