Job Summary
Perform job assignments according to MTech Mechanical safety standards and guidelines, and within budgetary constraints.
Essential Job Functions
- Drive, operate and maneuver heavy equipment (i.e. telehandler, forklift, skid steer, mini excavator, backhoe, loader, & roller.)
- Maintain knowledge of the operating equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of wet utilities, sewer, and treatment or water supply and distribution.
- Read and interpret utilities blueprints to dig soil according to defined specifications.
- Utilize the appropriate and/or assigned construction machinery to safely, efficiently, and productively excavate trenches move, and grade soils.
- Understand all safety requirements of underground excavating and trenching.
- Maintain active awareness of surroundings near the equipment to maintain safe operation and distances from potential hazards such as underground utility lines, other equipment, and other workers.
- Perform pre and post equipment checks and reports equipment issues to supervisors.
- Perform basic repairs to equipment in the event field mechanics are not available on site.
- Coordinate machine functions with crew members in response to hand and audio signals.
- Maintain familiarity with and understanding of utilities workflow of duties and team coordination with other trades
- Maintain assigned equipment and perform daily inspections to ensure compliance with operational and safety requirements including but not limited to checking fuel, oil, and/or hydraulic levels.
- Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.
- Supporting material management & logistics including transporting materials to and from jobsites, loading & unloading materials on job sites.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, & organized work area.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of local/national codes and industry standards. Ensure that all necessary inspections are made through all phases of work.
- Support the total quality effort. Identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time.
- Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy.
- Promote MTech business values and culture.
- Promote proper use of company assets.
- Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A qualified rigger or able to get their qualified rigger certification
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction practice and safety procedures
- Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards.
- Must possess and maintain licenses that are required in the jurisdictions that you are working.
- Reliable transportation to and from work required
