Position Title: Equipment Operator                                                   FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Operations                                                                    Date: 2025
Reports to: Field Manager/General Superintendent                          Location: Various Jobsites 
Wage Range: $25-35/hr.

Job Summary
Perform job assignments according to MTech Mechanical safety standards and guidelines, and within budgetary constraints.
 
Essential Job Functions
  • Drive, operate and maneuver heavy equipment (i.e. telehandler, forklift, skid steer, mini excavator, backhoe, loader, & roller.)
  • Maintain knowledge of the operating equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of wet utilities, sewer, and treatment or water supply and distribution.
  • Read and interpret utilities blueprints to dig soil according to defined specifications.
  • Utilize the appropriate and/or assigned construction machinery to safely, efficiently, and productively excavate trenches move, and grade soils.
  • Understand all safety requirements of underground excavating and trenching.
  • Maintain active awareness of surroundings near the equipment to maintain safe operation and distances from potential hazards such as underground utility lines, other equipment, and other workers.
  • Perform pre and post equipment checks and reports equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Perform basic repairs to equipment in the event field mechanics are not available on site.
  • Coordinate machine functions with crew members in response to hand and audio signals.
  • Maintain familiarity with and understanding of utilities workflow of duties and team coordination with other trades
  • Maintain assigned equipment and perform daily inspections to ensure compliance with operational and safety requirements including but not limited to checking fuel, oil, and/or hydraulic levels.
  • Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.
  • Supporting material management & logistics including transporting materials to and from jobsites, loading & unloading materials on job sites.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, & organized work area.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of local/national codes and industry standards. Ensure that all necessary inspections are made through all phases of work.
  • Support the total quality effort. Identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time.
  • Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy.
  • Promote MTech business values and culture.
  • Promote proper use of company assets.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • A qualified rigger or able to get their qualified rigger certification
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction practice and safety procedures
  • Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards.
  • Must possess and maintain licenses that are required in the jurisdictions that you are working.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to reach overhead.
  • Be able to work a full range of physical activity in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, kneeling and squatting, climbing, walking for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to lift 75 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
  • Capable of hearing at a level or correctable to a level where the person is able to receive detailed information through verbal communication. Vision must also be at a level or correctable level where the person has clarity both in short and long distance vision.
