POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer is responsible for the documentation and specification of magnetic assemblies for new and existing electric motors / coils / actuators in a cross-functional engineering team environment. They have regular direct contact with customers during the quoting phase to understand their specifications / needs and determine the best solution. They will approach the solution from a systems standpoint and can lead medium complexity projects through the design / development process. They support electromagnetic design and analysis needs for other projects as required. They take direction from the Engineering Manager and can manage the day-to-day work on their own.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Skilled at converting customer requirements into an electromechanical device (motor, coil, actuator, etc.) design to meet the specification.
- Work with the customer to define and refine their specifications based on physical requirements, electrical requirements, practical limitations, and in-house manufacturing capabilities.
- Perform magnetic FEA modeling of various device designs.
- Optimize device design per the customer's requirements.
- Revise magnetic models per test data and observations.
- Perform thermal and duty cycle analysis of new device designs.
- Specify and design relevant electronics for a customer's device design.
- Maintain project organization throughout the NPD process.
- Collaborate with the test organization to define the testing requirements that align with customer specifications.
- Brainstorm and provide electromagnetic design and analysis to the product development project teams as the engineering design lead or in a design support role.
- Meets design milestones and deliverables and supports other team members meet their deliverables when requested throughout the New Product Development process.
- Provide support for Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain team members when investigating production issues.
- Participates in hands on troubleshooting activities, cost-reduction activities, component evaluations, and other design and manufacturing initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Communicate and collaborate with other cross-functional team members, suppliers, and contractors.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED Experience
Hands on electric motor, solenoid, and electromechanical design experience.
MotorCAD or SPEED magnetic modelling software experience is strongly preferred.
