WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NURSE EDUCATOR FOR OUR MED SURG/PULMONARY/TRLEMETRY DEPARTMENT
SALARY $149,000
Days: 8:00 - 4:30
Plans and implements educational activities that are congruent with our mission, goals, values, priorities and resources.
Works with fellow Educator’s to plan, implement and evaluate nursing orientation process.
Participates in formal orientation classes for all new employees in the Nursing Department.
Facilitates an appropriate climate for learning using the adult learning process to develop, plan and present educational activities for all staff members.
Monitors staff through direct observation, interaction with the Nurse Manager/Director/Supervisor and dialogue with the involved staff to insure staff are competent to perform duties assigned.
Evaluates staff performance through periodic chart reviews and direct observation sharing observations with the Nurse Manager/Director/Supervisor and assists and participates in the plan of corrective action where necessary.
Educates staff in the use of any new equipment and maintains a record of such training in their educational file. Maintains a sign-in sheet for any education that includes classes for multiple staff members as well as evidence in their individual files.
Evaluates staff use of new equipment by direct observation in conjunction with the Nurse Manager, Director, Supervisors.
Educates staff to new policies and monitors compliance in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and Supervisors.
Rounds daily in assigned areas to observe staff and note areas where improvement/education is needed. Works in conjunction with the managerial staff to take the appropriate action.
Formulates an individualized orientation program for all new staff and communicates the plan to the staff member as well as the managerial staff on the unit assigned.
Works with the managerial staff to choose appropriate preceptor.
Monitors the progress of all orientees on a daily basis through direct observation and consultation with the managerial staff of that area and Preceptor. Meets weekly with the managerial staff, orientee and preceptor to discuss progress and alter the orientation plan as needed.
Modifies the orientation plan as necessary based on feedback from the orientee, managerial staff, preceptor and the goals met or identified areas for further development.
Designs and implements in-service programs as identified by regulatory needs, staff or managerial requests or best practice guidelines applicable to the units of responsibility.
Coordinates unit-based and global educational activities including scheduling dates, confirming
locations, selecting materials and learning aides as appropriate. Notifies managerial staff and staff in sufficient time to arrange staff participation.
Maintains all employee Education Files and documents all meetings held with orientees, preceptors or staff members.
Monitors mandatory courses (BLS, Yearly Mandatory Topics, etc.) and works with the Nurse Manager to insure staff compliance.
Works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager and /or Supervisor to evaluate the overall performance of the orientee to determine if the orientee is able to function independently. Continues to monitor the orientee’s progress throughout the probationary period.
Conducts yearly needs assessments and structures ongoing education according to those needs. Works with the managerial staff to complete the yearly competency assessment.
Conducts program evaluation for all programs or classes delivered, utilizing appropriate tools. Strives to determine whether or not staff’s participation in a program has affected their performance.
Serves as a role model and resource to all staff members on a daily basis.
Prepares program objectives, which are behaviorally objective.
Develops teaching/learning materials
Selects appropriate evaluation tools. May use general department tool, or develop a tool or use a “standardized” tool.
Serves on Committees including the Nursing Quality Council and Nursing Standards
Understands, supports and contributes to the goals/initiatives of Patient Care Services and offers support to staff on the shift as well as the ability to collaborate with and support unit management.
