Title: Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
Reports to: General Manager
Based at: Huron, OH
Type of Employment: Full time, permanent, 6 days a week (as required); may include weekend days.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Lead, direct and develop a team to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale and Environmental expectations of the company.
- Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of outgoing shipment.
- Distribute and plan all workload for successful completion of outbound.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and record keeping purposes.
- Promote relationship building amongst staff, and between departments internal and external. Must lead by example.
- Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
- Develop corrective actions to events needing improvement when opportunities exist.
- Be aware of product availability order to be proactive in acquiring product and determine which orders can be released earlier.
- Take a proactive approach to research, prepare and submit proposals for improvement actions
- Monitor employee performances in order to coach, train and discipline as needed.
- Conduct performance reviews and employee evaluations.
- Coordinate shift schedule and staff balancing to meet production and work-life balance needs.
- Cover “Shipping” and clerical task when in need of coverage (pick tickets, BOLs, ship screen, and TMS).
- Any additional duties or responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum 3 years of related experience within the produce industry
- Certified fork-lift operator and/or experience
- Supervisory or management experience is an asset
- Secondary language skills are considered an asset
- Must have strong time management skills with emphasis on meeting deadlines
- Highly energetic and assertive with strong leadership skills
- Excellent, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Must be comfortable being on call after hours for any facility matters and issues.
Physical Abilities:
- Must be able to deal with challenging employees and/or situations.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy material (i.e. up to 23 kg / 50 lbs.)
- Work in a temperature-controlled environment of approximately 13 ˚C / 55 ˚F.
