What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Building Official position at Muckleshoot Indian Tribe?
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Building Official, this individual performs a variety of routine and complex technical review and inspections on new and existing construction projects, installation methods, and materials to ensure conformance with Tribal Building codes and regulations; examine construction drawings and specifications; approve, sign, and maintain building inspections documents; provides related information and assistance to customers; and helps maintaining inspection records. Works with applicants, Planning, Public Works, and Construction Management staff on all building related items and issues stop work orders when required to do so.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION
Required: Associates Degree or two-year Technical Certificate in Building/Construction trades, Building Technology Industry, Construction Management, building inspection or related field and two (2) years of experience associated with plan review work and building construction. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION
- International Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire, Energy Codes and Construction Procedures as used on the tribal reservation area.
- National and industry standards and specifications for materials of construction and their proper use.
- Principles of structural design, and engineering mathematics.
- Understand carpentry, cement and concrete work to include reinforced concrete, electrical, mechanical, fire, and plumbing.
- Knowledge of all types of building construction, material, and methods, and observant of discrepancies and material defects may see and able to correct.
- Legal and administrative principles and techniques of permitting, building inspection and plan review process.
- Zoning and land use applications.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Prepare clear and concise correspondence and written materials.
- Operation in use of the personal computer and applicable computer software, hand calculator, typing ability, motor vehicle, office equipment, ladder and tape measure.
- Communicating effectively both oral and written with Tribal Officials, supervisors, contractors, developers, co-workers, and community members.
- Interpreting codes and applying them to the work condition.
- Develop and maintain collaborative and respectful working relationships with team members and others.
- Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals to accomplish a common goal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed outdoors and in an office setting. Outdoor work is required in the inspection process for the following: land use developments, construction sites, use of a motorized vehicle for this work. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must constantly see and hear, frequently stand, walk, talk, smell, use their hands and fingers to grasp or feel objects, tools, and controls, and occasionally reach with arm/hand and leg/foot to inspect job sites and facilities, bend head and neck, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.

Current and valid Washington State driver’s license; ICC Certified Building Inspector, ICC Certified Mechanical Inspector, and IPC Certified Plumbing Inspector required
