JOB SUMMARY

The Internship Coordinator at the Tribal College of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe will manage all facets of the internship program, facilitating opportunities for Tribal Members within internal departments and external companies. This role involves developing partnerships with various organizations to create meaningful internship placements. The coordinator will develop an application process, recruit, interview, and select qualified interns, ensuring alignment with program objectives. They will provide guidance and support to interns throughout their placements, fostering professional growth. Additionally, the coordinator will monitor and evaluate internship experiences to ensure quality and relevance. Collaboration with community members and internal departments is essential to enhance program effectiveness.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain relationships with potential internship providers to secure diverse opportunities for Tribal Members.
  • Develop, coordinate and manage the internship application and selection process, including recruitment, interviewing, and placement of interns.
  • Provide support to interns during their internships, including conducting orientations and offering ongoing guidance.
  • Organize and lead workshops and events for interns, such as networking events and skill-building sessions.
  • Create and maintain internship databases, program materials, and evaluation processes to track intern progress.
  • Expertise in technology to design flyers, create branding tools, utilize social media, and manage communication platforms.
  • Serve as a liaison between interns and host organizations, addressing any issues or concerns that arise.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of interns, providing feedback and support as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify internship opportunities within the Tribal organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures related to internship placements.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on the effectiveness of the internship program for stakeholders.
  • Assist with the development of policies and procedures for the internship program to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in internship program management to continually improve the program.
  • Facilitate communication between interns and supervisors to ensure a productive internship experience.
  • Provide career counseling and support to interns, helping them to develop professional skills.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to the internship program, including scheduling, record-keeping, and working as a team player in Adult & Higher Education.
  • Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, human resources, or a related field.
    • Three (3) years of experience in student services or program coordination.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    Skills:

    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in using computer applications for data management, communication and social media
    • Problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during internships.
    • Cultural sensitivity and awareness when working with Tribal Members.

    Ability:

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve program goals.
    • Ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines and program objectives.
    • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and program needs.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of intern and organizational information.
    • Ability to provide constructive feedback to interns and supervisors.
    • Ability to travel locally to visit internship sites as needed.

    Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of internship program development and management best practices.
    • Understanding of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe's culture and values to align the program accordingly.
    • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations pertaining to internships.
    • Awareness of local organizations and businesses that can provide internship opportunities.
    • Knowledge of career development principles to support intern growth.
    • Understanding of data management and reporting for program evaluation.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The Internship Coordinator position primarily involves working in an office environment, requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. The role necessitates clear verbal communication, both in person and over the phone, as well as the ability to read and analyze written materials. Occasional local travel is required to visit internship sites, which may involve driving and walking through various facilities. The coordinator should be capable of handling physical materials, such as lifting and carrying documents or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Flexibility in working hours may be needed to accommodate events or meetings outside of standard business hours.
