JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the janitorial/landscape general maintenance of buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment. And performs other related duties as assigned. This class is the journey-level position in the Support Services series. Positions at this level work with minimal supervision and perform skilled tasks.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Two (2) years janitorial/landscape experience; OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance on the job.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION
Skilled in:
- Safe and proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Safe work practices and procedures.
- Performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Recognizing safety hazards.
- Performing a variety of routine to skilled janitorial/landscape functions.
- Completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner.
- Safely operating janitorial and landscape equipment and handling cleaning chemicals.
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial/landscape work.
- Basic math.
- Safety and sanitation practices and measures required.
Ability to:
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Read and write.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Operate and care for janitorial/landscape equipment and supplies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
