WORK SCHEDULE: 10 hrs/week, day/hours negotiable


PURPOSE:
Muddy Creek Charter School is looking for a dynamic elementary music teacher who can inspire and engage students in a place/project-based learning environment. We offer a joyful and creative educational experience where engaged students practice the skills they will need to be effective citizens and stewards in the future. The successful candidate for this position will be an inspirational and passionate educator with the ability to deliver an inquiry-based, academic program.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.


Curriculum Development and Planning:

  • Follow ODE guidelines which includes the theory and practice of general music, singing and playing musical instruments. Create an enjoyable learning environment to inspire young minds and help them grow in appreciation of music.
  • Understanding of the curriculum areas the teacher is responsible for instructing, and ability to seek resources to continuously develop and integrate curriculum over time.
  • Collaborate with a team of teachers to structure music curriculum and plan lessons based upon the School mission, vision, academic goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and independently to implement lessons based upon the school’s goals and objectives.
  • Plan and execute performance opportunities for students 2 or more times in the school year.

Instructional Requirements:

  • Ability to thrive in a place-based, project-oriented, cooperative learning environment.
  • Provide high-quality instruction in the core curriculum areas for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
  • Enthusiasm for using outdoor space as a classroom, experiential learning opportunities, and scientific exploration.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods and industry best-practices for providing instruction to students.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies and ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate
  • Ensure curriculum, intervention plans, and instructional decisions are culturally relevant, neurodiverse-affirming, and do not disempower others or reinforce stereotypes
  • Collaborate with Special Education teacher, 504 coordinator, RTI coordinator, service providers, 504, and IEP teams to identify and implement effective accommodations,modifications, interventions, and specially designed instruction

Classroom Management:

  • Demonstrate strong skills in classroom presentation and management including excellent organizational skills.
  • Engage strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and community members from diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to build and maintain an environment for students that emphasizes community and is fun and engaging, as we well as structured for engaged student learning
  • Able to collaborate with learners to establish and monitor elements of a safe and productive learning environment including norms, expectations, routines, and organizational structures.

Responsibilities to the School Community and Charter:

  • Responsible awareness and implementation of school charter and policies.
  • Contribute to the School’s efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources
  • Maintain positive contact and communications with parents of students and partner with them to further the academic development of the student; participate in parent teacher conferences as needed
  • Maintain professional and ethical behavior while at school and in the community.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the success of the school

Child Information and Evaluation:

  • Evaluate student performance in accordance with systems used by school; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the School board.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference given to applicants with valid Oregon Elementary Teaching License music endorsement.
  • Training and reasonable skill level in vocal and instrumental music, including theory, history, and practical musical production.
  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
  • Physical and Mental stamina to be able to keep up with high-energy, academically varied students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is regularly required to stand and use hands or fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to regularly walk (occasionally on an uneven surface), occasionally sit and reach with hands and arms (frequently reaching above the shoulder), stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Supervision responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is for the 2024/2025 school year. MCCS hires all employees on an annual basis. THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED FOR ONE SCHOOL YEAR. Opportunities for private lesson space at MCCS and student referrals may also be available when school is not in session.
