What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Designer position at Mueller Brass Company?
SUMMARY: Working with internal and external entities, supports the design and fabrication of production tooling and processes related to the forging, production, machining, packaging, and inspection of products by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Recommends (specifies) materials/heat treat and supplies for tool builds with knowledge of process conditions such as temperature and forces applied to the tooling which would affect the life.
Orders required tooling and provide timelines on projected completion dates.
Coordinates with production for tool and process PPAPs.
Knows the specifications and limitations of production machinery such as presses, casters, and finishing lines.
Able to calculate feeds and speeds of tools and/or presses to obtain cycle times.
References similar tool designs as required.
Records customer specific information onto production part drawings such as name, number, revision level, part name, specifications that apply, material requirements and critical or significant characteristics.
Designs gages and fixtures for production parts.
Applies geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to part, tool and gage drawings.
Maintains appropriate document control including but not limited to: Naming all drawings with unique number for drawing control and maintaining revision levels.
Updates required changes to all production tool, part and gage drawings as per engineering change notices and/or direction from customer, supervisor or as otherwise identified.
Create proposed tool, gage, work holding, and forge simulations.
Maintain work area to acceptable housekeeping standards.
Supports problem resolution with customers, sales, and with both internal and external manufacturing operations as appropriate.
Supports product feasibility reviews with customer, sales and management personnel providing technical, simulation and processing guidance and suggestions.
Supports APQP and/or ISO activities as needed providing technical and processing input to ensure quality requirements are achieved.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
One Two-year associate’s degree and from college or technical school; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Solid Works experience required.
