Description

The internship intends to introduce participants to workers’ compensation defense law. While supporting the attorney and legal team, the intern will gain valuable firsthand experience and practical skills. Although most of the time will be spent working with, and under the supervision of a senior partner, the intern may also work with associate partners, senior counsel and associates, as needed. Duties may include but are not limited to:   


  • Organizing case files, compiling relevant documents, and preparing any necessary materials for upcoming appearances and/or major case events.   
  • Completing initial, comprehensive file reviews.  
  • Reviewing medical reports and records.  
  • Regularly reviewing cases to determine file status.  
  • Drafting various correspondence to case parties (including clients, opposing counsel, medical doctors, etc.)  
  • Drafting legal documents including pleadings and briefs.
  • Communicating with case parties to gather information and to provide (non-legal) information.  
  • Performing legal research and/or assisting with research projects.
  • Assisting in trial preparations.  
  • Observing depositions and court proceedings.  


Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor program as a 3L or 4L.
  • Excellent writing and communication abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills. 
  • Proficiency in legal research databases and software. 
  • Work in person, as needed.
  • Required to work 15 – 20 hours per week.
