English Teacher - Multi County (7-12 Integrated Language Arts Licensure)

 

Reports to:  Principal

 

Job Objectives:

Plans, implements, and evaluates student experiences. Helps students identify goals and make appropriate choices.  Encourages parental involvement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements.
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Complies with Licensure code of Professional code of Conduct for Ohio Educators.

 

Responsibility and Essential Functions:

  • Prepares the assigned classroom. Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
  • Teaches scheduled classes. Documents teaching performance objectives. Creates effective learning experiences. Develops written lesson plans according to building procedures. Ensures that lesson plans align with the district’s adapted courses of study/state academic content standards.
  • Able to administer either formative or summative assessments with students and maintain accurate records of that data. Must be able to read such data to determine the specific needs of students and how to use it for instruction.
  • Ensures that teaching materials are readily available for substitutes.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures. Promotes a professional image of the school district. Encourages community partnerships that enhance district programs.
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high expectations for behavior. Upholds the student conduct code.
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
  • Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information. Plans student interventions. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Provides guidance, communicates expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress. Facilitates critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance student learning.
  • Incorporates the effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds computer technology acceptable-use policies.
  • Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g., access and proximity to activities, use of
  • adaptive equipment, etc.).
  • Proctors state achievement, standardized, and alternative tests as directed. Follows test security procedures.
  • Helps students with content-area test preparation activities.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Respects personal property. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Evaluates student performance. Assigns grades accordingly to district policy. Prepares progress reports.
  • Consults with parents as needed (e.g., phone calls, notes, meetings, etc.).
  • Takes precautions to ensure safety. Monitors situations that may indicate a problem. Provides appropriate student supervision. Works with supervisors to eliminate unacceptable risks.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglected to civil authorities as required by law.
  • Consults with support personnel to address student concerns (e.g., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, family/peer relations, etc.).
  • Makes a referral for student assistance/intervention when a need is indicated. Meets deadlines for required paperwork. Participates in IAT meetings as needed. Helps prepare and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for classroom students meeting eligibility requirements.
  • Supports inclusive educational environment. Provides opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in appropriate peer group activities.
  • Supervises assigned student activities. Provides emergency classroom coverage for short periods.
  • Assists with committee assignments and/or special projects as directed.
  • Participates in staff meetings, conferences, and other required school events.
  • Encourages parent organizations and supports school-sponsored activities as time permits.
  • Pursues growth opportunities that enhance professional performance and advance district goals.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as defined by board policy. Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
  • Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.
  • Provides prompt notification of absences.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Under the direction of the principal: plans activities, provides instructions, and works with assigned staff. Assists staff as needed to promote teamwork.

 

Working Conditions:

Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
  • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
  • Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
  • Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
  • Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and seasonal temperature extremes.
  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
