BEGINNING PAYMENT RATE: $14.90 hourly rate
CONTRACT DAYS: 260days
BENEFITS ELIGIBLE: Yes
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt position
EVALUATED BY: District Administration
PURPOSE: The Custodian provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Custodian must work closely with the staff and administration of the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational training.
- Ability to meet all physical requirements of assigned duties.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for all assigned responsibilities.
- Valid driver’s license (prefer Kansas)
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Health and Tuberculin Certificates on file (after employee offer is made)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Display dependability and punctuality in attendance.
- Keep floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Dust and clean furniture and fixtures on a daily schedule.
- Displays adaptability in new situations,
- Keep wastebaskets empty and clean
- Support the philosophy and mission of USD 343.
- Report to the building principal any acts of vandalism, any evidence of deliberate or excessive littering, and any behavior by students that is demeaning to the custodian.
- Clean and sanitize all restrooms, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains on a daily basis.
- Displays good judgment in decision-making situations.
- Responds positively to constructive suggestions for improvement.
- Utilizes time constructively and effectively.
- Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Serves as a role model for children in behavior, appearance and grooming
- Keep grounds free of rubbish.
- Interacts in a professional manner with all staff members of the school district and community.
- Promptly report needed major repairs.
- Operate various floor care equipment, high and low speed buffers, carpet shampoo machines, and vacuum cleaners.
- Remove snow and ice from entrances and sidewalks
- Replace light tubes and bulbs in fixtures.
- Clean and/or replace ceiling tiles.
- Operate laundry washer and dryer.
- The ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures.
- The ability for work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Perform laundry duties maintaining sports uniforms, sports towels, custodian rags, and mop heads.
- Set up equipment for activities including sports, academics, social meetings, and programs both school and non-school related.
- Assume responsibility for building security at all times.
- The ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
- Ability to react to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Head Custodian, building Principal and/or Superintendent of Schools.
