What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Nurse position at Multiple Locations?
Overall Purpose
The job of Lead School Nurse is to oversee the operation of the school nurses and assist with the individual health needs of students; implementing health care plans directed by physicians; ensuring district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured students; serving as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; conducting mandated health screenings; and identifying health problems for referral to appropriate parties for proper follow up treatment.
Essential Functions
- Provides advisement, guidance and support to school level nurses.
- Ensures appropriate services are provided for students with health concerns as needed and/or appropriate.
- Reviews Individual Health Care Plans as necessary.
- Coordinates screening procedures.
- Provides nursing coverage to schools when alternative arrangements cannot be made.
- Coordinate general training and staff development for staff and school nurses.
- Develops nursing procedures to ensure continuity of care in the schools.
- Collaborates with schools and attends school level meetings as requested, such as 504 meetings.
- Trains new nurses and assists with clinic setup.
- Reviews and updates all standard forms for the school health program and maintains the nurse's drive.
- Monitors utilization of computer based programs to ensure accuracy, data entry, and proper maintenance of student records as it relates to nursing.
- Collaborates with Director of Student Services to review student health policies and procedures.
- Performs nursing duties as outlined in school nurse job description.
- Serves with administrators on interview panels for nurses.
- Provides input to administrators on the evaluation of school nurses.
- Performs other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
Requirements
Certified Registered Nurse
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to10 pounds of force as needed to move objects. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Education/Training
Three (3) years minimum successful pediatric, public health or school nursing preferred.
Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
