Position Overview:
The Concrete Finisher/Foreman will be responsible for overseeing concrete finishing work on construction sites, ensuring that the project is completed efficiently, safely, and according to quality standards. This position combines hands-on concrete finishing expertise with leadership responsibilities, overseeing a crew of laborers and tradespeople. The Concrete Finisher/Foreman will ensure proper procedures are followed, materials are managed, and deadlines are met.
Key Responsibilities
Concrete Finishing:
- Finish concrete surfaces, including floors, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and foundations, using a variety of tools such as trowels, floats, and screeds.
- Level and smooth concrete using power tools and hand tools to meet project specifications and ensure high-quality results.
- Apply surface treatments like stamping, polishing, or sealing as required.
- Inspect finished surfaces to ensure proper thickness, finish, and smoothness.
Crew Supervision:
- Supervise, train, and mentor a crew of concrete workers, laborers, and apprentices.
- Assign tasks, set daily goals, and ensure the team is working efficiently and safely.
- Monitor the progress of concrete work, ensuring that it stays on schedule and meets quality standards.
- Provide on-the-job training for less experienced crew members.
Site Coordination:
- Ensure that all materials and equipment are available and in good condition to complete the work.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and other foremen to ensure smooth operations on the job site.
- Verify that safety standards and regulations are adhered to on-site, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular site inspections and make adjustments as necessary to maintain the quality and efficiency of the project.
Quality Control:
- Monitor concrete pour and finishing operations to ensure adherence to specifications, project plans, and local building codes.
- Identify and resolve any quality issues or defects in finished concrete surfaces.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site, ensuring that safety equipment is used appropriately.
Problem-Solving:
- Address and resolve any issues that arise on the job site, including equipment malfunctions, delays, or worker concerns.
- Troubleshoot problems related to concrete consistency, finish, and site conditions.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in concrete finishing with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- In-depth knowledge of concrete finishing techniques, tools, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage a team effectively.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in construction.
Certifications (preferred):
- OSHA 10/30-hour certification.
- First aid/CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
- Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
