The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team. In this crucial role, you will manage payroll processing, benefits reconciliations, tax compliance, and troubleshooting discrepancies. You will also be responsible for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring the accuracy of payroll-related financial reporting and reconciliations. This in-person role requires excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to support and enhance the company’s payroll operations.This is a full-time, fully on-site role at our club in Portland, OR.What You'll Do
Payroll Processing & Troubleshooting: Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing by resolving discrepancies such as deductions and collaborating with HR and Finance teams to maintain consistency and compliance within our HRIS system (Dayforce).
Benefits Reconciliation: Reconcile employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, life insurance, and accident/illness benefits, ensuring that deductions and contributions are correctly applied and comply with tax regulations.
Tax & Compliance: Maintain accurate tax records, stay up to date with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations. Review and resolve any issues arising from quarterly payroll processing in the HRIS system, Dayforce.
Month-End, Quarter-End & Year-End Processing: Prepare and maintain payroll-related reports, including balance sheet reconciliations for payroll, taxes, and benefits. Manage reconciliations and filings during month-end close, quarterly filings, and year-end processing.
Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to coordinate payroll, benefits administration, and tax filing processes. Ensure seamless communication across teams to address any issues that may arise.
System Maintenance: Ensure data integrity within Dayforce and assist as the subject matter expert with system updates or changes. Provide support to ensure the HRIS system is optimized and accurate.
What You'll Bring
Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of payroll processing experience, including benefits reconciliation and tax compliance. Experience with Dayforce or a similar HRIS system is highly preferred.
Certification: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll and tax laws, including federal, state, and local regulations.
Technical and Interpersonal Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data manipulation), excellent attention to detail and accuracy, strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies, effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and explain complex payroll-related issues.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, particularly during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processing.
Scheduling Considerations: Flexibility to work additional hours during month-end close, quarterly, and annual processing periods.
