The Role
As the Recreational Aquatics Lifeguard Coordinator, you will supervise, train, and mentor lifeguard staff, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all pool activities. You'll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pool area, including open swim, lap swim, swim meets, and special events. This role requires someone who can manage both administrative and operational tasks, ensuring the pool area remains safe, organized, and well-staffed.
You will work closely with the Aquatics Supervisor and Aquatics Manager to maintain a positive, safe atmosphere while being empowered to make decisions in their absence. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are essential for this role, as you'll be actively involved in managing staffing and pool activities.This is a full-time, fully on-site position in our club in Portland, OR. What You'll Do
Supervise Lifeguard Staff: Monitor, mentor, and evaluate lifeguard performance. Act as a key point of contact for any staff-related issues or emergencies.
Manage Pool Operations: Oversee day-to-day pool activities, including open swim, lap swim, swim meets, and special events.
Ensure Safety: Actively enforce health and safety codes, making decisions to close unsafe areas of the pool and leading emergency response efforts when needed.
Training & Development: Coordinate staff in-service training, assist with lifeguard audits and skills evaluations, and track certifications and re-certifications.
Staff Scheduling: Create and manage lifeguard schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage for all pool activities.
Communication & Collaboration: Work directly with the Aquatics Supervisor on staffing and pool management. Maintain open lines of communication with staff, members, and supervisors.
Pool Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections of the pool area, addressing any hazards or issues promptly to prevent closures or safety concerns.
Member Engagement: Assist members about aquatics programs and direct them to the right resources for any questions or concerns.
Safety Leadership: Be the first responder during medical emergencies, ensuring proper actions are taken and relevant parties are notified.
What You'll Bring
Lifeguarding Expertise: Extensive experience in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and first aid, including a willingness to instruct certification courses.
Leadership Skills: Experience in a supervisory role, preferably in aquatics or a similar field. Ability to lead by example and manage a team effectively.
Safety-First Mentality: Strong commitment to enforcing safety protocols and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and members.
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, able to engage with staff and members and relay information clearly.
Organizational Ability: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks, such as scheduling, inspections, and staff training.
Computer Proficiency: Comfort with using Microsoft Office and other basic computer applications to communicate and manage client information.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including swimming, lifting swimmers, and responding to emergencies.
Schedule Requirements: Availability to work weekends and occasional holidays, and the ability to adapt to changing schedules or staffing needs.
