Are you someone who loves working with data and creating solutions that make a real difference? We're looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team and help advance the County's Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing platforms. We are focused on the successful adoption of Business Intelligence tools throughout the county. The officially supported BI tools are : SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Tableau, and Power BI. We have On-Prem servers as well as databases in the Azure Cloud and in Snowflake.
In this role, you'll be doing more than just maintaining databases-you'll be solving complex problems, driving innovation, and helping shape the future of how we manage and use data. You'll work on both day-to-day production support and exciting new projects, including redesigning our Data Warehouses to run on platforms like Azure Cloud and Snowflake.
We're looking for someone who's experienced with on-premises SQL servers, loves diving into the details, and is ready to take on the challenge of working with cloud technologies like Azure and Snowflake. The job responsibilities include :
Database Administration and Maintenance
- Develop large-scale databases and data warehousing.
- Perform database architecture and develop technical standards for large-scale databases for our data warehouses (SQL Server, Azure, and Snowflake).
- Manage and maintain SQL Server and Cloud (Azure, Snowflake, etc) databases for development, testing, and production.
- Administer database components (e.g., tablespaces, tables, indexes) and ensure security.
- Design, implement, and manage database backups, restoration, and recovery processes.
- Configure network connections and manage storage requirements.
- Develop and schedule maintenance jobs and scripts to support database activities.
- Standardize naming conventions and oversee database migrations.
- Provide consulting and support for IT projects involving database solutions.
- Provide technical assistance to IT developers and users.
- Offer guidance on SQL tuning and error debugging.
- Assist in troubleshooting complex SQL statements and database problems.
- Provide training as appropriate.
- Assist with the installation of database client software.
- Participate in data quality efforts and architecture design.
- Migrate data between databases.
- Participate in database SQL code walkthroughs.

This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call positions.
Routine Telework : This position is designated as "routine telework," meaning you will be working remotely (from home); a hybrid schedule also is available. As with all routine telework positions, employees may be required to come into the office on occasion. The designation of Routine Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. We are not able to sponsor H1-B visas.
Type of Position : This is an hourly, AFSCME Local 88 union-represented position and is eligible for overtime.
Location : This position is located in the Multnomah Building, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. See above for information about teleworking.

Serving the Public, Even During Disasters
