POSITION PURPOSE:
A District Systems and Security Engineer is responsible for working alongside district or ESD technology teams to design, recommend, and implement security improvements to district systems and other technology resources. The position focuses on understanding of security implications and risks. The position works to improve overall district security posture by improving configuration, usage, and practices in virtualization, software, hardware, network, and cloud technologies for internal and external clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.
- Plan and implement changes to district infrastructure with the goal of lowering overall security risks.
- Design, configure, troubleshoot, and support Microsoft and Linux server operating systems utilizing both hardware and virtualization based technologies.
- Design, configure, troubleshoot, and support WAN/LAN connectivity and information security infrastructure.
- Design, configure, troubleshoot, and support storage and server data backup and disaster recovery operations.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and support cloud-based services.
- Configure security settings or access permissions for groups and individuals.
- Maintain and respond to remote monitoring system alerts and notifications.
- Ensure regular software and operating system upgrades.
- Document setup & troubleshooting procedures.
- Communicate with clients as needed and act as a source of guidance and training.
- Collaborate with other Technology staff to ensure a secure, client-friendly technology environment.
- Maintain skill sets to keep up with new and emerging technologies.
- Maintain flexible work hours to meet project demands as needed.
- Travel between sites.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide back-up support to other positions in case of absence or work overload.
- Assists other programmers, developers, and other TS colleagues in systems analysis, programming, troubleshooting, and back-up functions.
- Attends department and other staff meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Four or more years demonstrated work experience with Microsoft enterprise systems, including Windows Server and Active Directory in an enterprise setting.
- Four or more years demonstrated work experience with Linux server administration in an enterprise setting.
- Demonstrated work experience supporting standard WAN/LAN network configuration and management.
- Demonstrated work experience with VMWare and other virtualization technologies.
- Working knowledge of O365 or Google cloud based productivity suite administration.
- Working knowledge of storage devices & protocols including SAN, NAS, DAS, iSCSI, NFS, etc.
- Working knowledge of Windows and Mac based desktop/client configuration via enterprise management tools.
- Working knowledge of mobile device configuration via enterprise management tools.
- Knowledge of help desk ticketing practices and service escalation processes.
- Knowledge of Azure AD and cloud integration is highly desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of ChromeOS and Chrome management tools is highly desirable but not required.
- Ability to to shift priorities rapidly in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work comfortably in a team environment
- Ability to self organize/start to effectively support multiple customers simultaneously
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to successfully pass State of Oregon criminal background check
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years recent experience supporting end-user technology in an enterprise setting
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in special education or alternative education environments. Work may involve implementing crisis prevention/intervention protocols, and may involve a risk of injury, exposure to contagious diseases, verbally and physically hostile students and other adverse conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in an office and computer operating environment; involves sitting, walking, and occasional lifting up to 60 lbs load; and requires hand/eye coordination in the efficient operation and setup of computers and related equipment. Travel to various sites may be required.
Daily:
- Requires regular focus on a computer screen
- May be required to sit, stand, type, write, hear and speak for extended periods of time
- Precise control of fingers and hand movements required.
- Work activities may include bending, stooping, kneeling
Occasionally:
- Dealing with distraught or difficult individuals.
- Ability to perform work and communicate in a noisy environment.
- Evening and weekend work for maintenance and urgent support.
