JOB TITLE: Instructional Assistant - Elementary & Middle School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
PURPOSE
To improve student achievement by providing instructional and non-instructional support
as directed by the building administrator or his/her designee; may function in an
instructional setting separate from the teacher, exercising a considerable degree of skill
with supervision within the framework of a teacher-planned and evaluated program;
assists in providing a safe, healthy environment for students; and performing a variety of
general clerical duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives supervision from Administrator; receives guidance and direction from licensed
staff. Exercises no supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS

● Assist with supervision of students in classroom

● Assist teachers to administer school-wide assessments
● Behavior Management - Implement district and/or building behavior
interventions/management (PBiS)
● Assist school staff and administration in implementing all policies and/or rules
governing student conduct, reinforce individual school’s plan for PBiS, support
teacher’s reasonable rules for classroom behavior that are based upon PBiS, use
proactive behavior management skills in all school settings.
● Enter data as directed
● Assist in establishing PBiS for a positive learning environment and respond to the
individual needs of students
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Assist teachers in the social and educational development of the students
● Implement district mandated intervention programs under teacher guidance.
This includes but is not limited to the following: assessing, placement, preparing
materials, teaching and monitoring the progress of students in small group
instruction
● Provide teachers data to document student progress
● Understand and maintain district guidelines regarding safety and confidentiality
● Provide students a safe and secure environment at all times. This may include
playground supervision, crosswalk duty, cafeteria duty, monitor before school
and small group management
● Clerical support and simple maintenance and operation of school equipment and
supplies
● Maintain a confidential, non-preferential, non-judgmental manner towards the
students, staff, and program
● Work with a variety of students and demonstrate a willingness to gain the
information and training necessary to work effectively
● Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies
● Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff and
general public
● Prepares instructional materials related to area of assignment as directed by
teacher
● Administer minor first aid
● Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and complete work within
established timelines
● Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet
student needs

SALARY, HOURS, APPLICATION AND REPORTING
● Salaried/ 0.8 FTE. $27,200.00 - $36,554.53
o Compensation based on experience pay honored on MLA salary scale
● Hours of operation: Monday - Thursday; 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
● Reports to the Principal. (may report to the Executive Director, Superintendent,
or Vice Principal if Principal is not available)
