Job Description:
The Grape Harvest Specialist will assist the Viticulture Department in evaluating grape maturity in grower and estate vineyards. This involves visiting estate and grower-owned vineyards to monitor and sample grape maturity during the harvest season. The successful candidate will record pertinent information, update files, and communicate with the Grower Relations Team regarding conditions such as vine health, damage from pests, Powdery Mildew, Botrytis, etc.
This role requires a personable and good verbal communicator to interact with growers and vineyard management companies. Physical endurance is also essential as the individual will work outdoors in different terrains and climates.
The ideal candidate will have a safe driving record with a valid California Driver's License and be comfortable driving on dirt roads and in vineyard terrain. Basic knowledge of viticulture fundamentals or the ability to learn is required, including planting, physiology of vines, nutrients, pest, and diseases. Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel and Word is also necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
• Grape maturity (sugar) sampling for all vineyard blocks.
• Scout and Monitor vineyards for pests, diseases, nutritional disorders, and vine health. Communicate issues to Grower Relations as needed.
• Data entry into and work with Excel spreadsheets.
• Cluster counts and cluster weights to help with crop estimates.
• Check on individual vineyard(s) grape harvesting as needed for quality control.
• Assist with collection, verification, and filing of required reports needed from growers, i.e., Pre-harvest pest reports.
• Special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Over 21 years of age.
