Who We Are:
Munekiyo Hiraga (MH) is a full service urban planning, government affairs, and community engagement consulting firm. The professionals and support staff of Munekiyo Hiraga have been working together as a team for over 30 years, serving a broad range of clients in the State of Hawaii. MH is headquartered in Wailuku, Maui and has an office in Honolulu, Oahu. The firm provides services statewide for a diverse client list which includes governmental agencies, landowners, small businesses, attorneys, architects, engineers, and non-profit organizations.
Position:
Munekiyo Hiraga is seeking a full-time planner to work with clients on environmental review documents, land use entitlement processes, community outreach, feasibility studies, and other areas of project implementation. The position is to be based in either our Maui or Oahu office.
The ideal candidate will have the following preferred background and qualifications:

2. Degree in urban and regional planning or similar field (Master's degree preferred)
3. Professional experience in planning or related field
4. Excellent communications, research, writing and critical thinking skills
5. Experience in project management; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines to support our mission of "Excellence in Process Management"
6. Willingness and ability to work effectively as a member of multidisciplinary teams
7. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is a plus
8. Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Research and analysis in support of various environmental, technical, or feasibility studies
- Preparation of Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Statement documents
- Preparation of land use entitlement applications
- Coordination with Federal, State, and County agencies on application processing and regulatory compliance
- Assist Clients in processing construction permits
- Coordination with clients, technical consultants, and other members of the project team
- Presentations to decision making bodies such as Planning Commissions, Boards or Councils
- Formulate and implement community engagement strategies which ensure respectful and transparent communication/dialogue throughout each project assignment
