Munich Composites is a carbon fiber bicycle rim manufacturer located in Landrum, SC. The ownership group of Boyd Cycling recently acquired Munich Composites and relocated the equipment and production into South Carolina. Known for an automated braiding technique to construct carbon rims, Munich Composites is an OEM supplier to many bicycle wheel and bike brands.
Munich Composites is looking for a composite design engineer to design the carbon fiber bicycle rims, layup schedules, and work to further the development of new and existing products.
Core Responsibilities
- Design new carbon fiber bicycle rim shapes
- Design the tooling and molds needed to produce the rims and wax cores.
- Work on the layup schedule of the carbon fiber placement and angles
- Program the braiding machines dependent on carbon angles needed
- Prototype new designs and validate through in house and third party testing
- Work with production manager on implementing improved efficiencies
As a composites design engineer and product manager, you have the exciting opportunity to bring new ideas to market. Munich Composites has a patented carbon braiding manufacturing process which allows for faster, more automated production. The main responsibilities would be to determine the ideal carbon layup and fiber placement to create the world’s most advanced bicycle rims, running prototypes, and testing the prototypes before going to production.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Knowledge of composite layup, angles, and fiber placement to create rim designs
- Solidworks or similar mastery
- Tooling, molds design, and machinery knowledge
- Experience in resin transfer molding
- Ability to work some during non production hours in order to create prototypes

Situated in a 140,000sf facility on the soon to be built Saluda Grade Trail in Landrum, SC, Munich Composites is co-located with other exciting bicycle brands such as Boyd Cycling and Time Bicycles.
This job position is for full time in-person employment in Landrum, SC with paid holidays and vacation. Applicants must have a valid work permit for working within the USA and must be able to commute to Landrum, SC on a daily basis.
