What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Plant Supervisor position at Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County?
PURPOSE
To plan, coordinate, and maintain the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Supervise Plant Maintenance staff, Operators and Lab technicians.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide supervision to wastewater treatment plant maintenance staff, operators and lab technicians.
- Schedule work duties and assure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner
- Employee safety of all subordinate employees by assuring that employees are trained in safety, safety equipment is utilized and authority safety policies are followed.
- Prepare daily, monthly, and yearly progress reports on activities in the treatment plant.
- Participation in preparation & administration of annual budget for the treatment plant.
- Make recommendations for improving treatment plant operation both technically and financially.
- Administer all aspects of purchasing
- Supervise the installation, maintenance and repair of treatment plant processes and equipment
- Implement and maintain a comprehensive maintenance program.
- Supervise proper operation and maintenance of equipment and processes, etc.
- Dispatch plant personnel for call out and emergency situations.
- Maintain 24/7 communication (phone, email, text, etc.)
KNOWLEDGE OF
- Environmental Laws and Regulations: Federal, state and local environmental laws and the ability to apply current information to given situations.
- Regulations: Federal, state and municipal restrictions, laws and ordinances.
- Customer Service: Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.
- English Language: The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning of words and grammar.
- Maintenance Principles: Processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to optimum state of cleanliness, repair and efficiency.
- Utilities Construction: Engineering and other materials, methods, laws and tools to safely and accurately complete utilities construction projects.
- Office software: Current word processing presentation, spreadsheet and database programs used by MAWC.
- The use of associated equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant
EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED to meet basic requirements plus additional technical training in wastewater and collection systems. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Science is preferable.
EXPERIENCE
At least 10 years’ experience in wastewater treatment plants and 4 years’ experience as a Wastewater Plant Supervisor
REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a valid Pa. driver’s license
- Knowledge of the PA One call system
- Possess strong verbal and organizational skill
- Trenching and excavation experience
- Possess strong computer skills Excel, Microsoft Word, Etc.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment repairs
- Heavy equipment operation knowledge
- Possess the appropriate Wastewater Operators license for the State of Pennsylvania
