Position Overview
The Meter Reader is responsible for conducting timely and accurate readings of residential and non-residential utility meters as part of a high-volume, tightly scheduled workload. This role involves performing scheduled meter reads and rereads, utilizing tools as necessary to access meters across diverse properties. The Meter Reader ensures precision in data collection with minimal supervision, contributing to the reliability of utility billing and operational systems. Reporting to the Meter Reader Coordinator, this position plays a vital role in supporting the company’s utility services through consistent and efficient fieldwork.
Essential Job Functions
- Read Residential and Non-residential meters in a timely manner and as scheduled
- Perform Residential and Non-residential Rereads
- Perform work accurately with minimal supervision
- Be able to work outdoors independently or as a team
- Special Projects as requested
- Other inspections and assignments –non licensed inspections and survey inspections
oGrease traps
oPre/post construction lot inspections
oNew construction investigations
- Performs any other industry related task to the best of their ability
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School or GED
- Valid class C driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)
- Meter reading experience is beneficial
Licenses:
- Basic Water “Class D” License and/or be able to obtain basic water License within six (6) months of employment
- Driver’s License with no moving violation
Other Skills/Abilities
- Tech proficient
- Ability to learn meter reading software and handhelds
- Be able to communicate clearly with customers and clients
- Uses hand tools such as: hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, shovels, manhole hooks, etc., to perform meter reading and inspections jobs
- Meets scheduling and attendance requirements
- Works around construction sites and other potentially hazardous environments
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required
- Must be able to reply to email and other notifications within a timely manner
Work Environment:
- Must have the physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions
- Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50pounds)
- Must be able to work under adverse weather and environmental conditions
- Subject to exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, noise, and dirty working conditions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
