What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACCOUNTANT - Range 13 / AMEA position at Municipality of Anchorage?
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Finance
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, may be negotiated with management
LOCATION: City Hall - 632 W 6th Ave, Suite 530
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
Under directed guidance, participate in Controller Division and Municipal wide departments communications in supporting the proper accounting of various financial activities. Reconcile General Ledger accounts, subsidiary ledgers, and reports, and uploading journal entries. Maintain complete accounting records and financial reports and grant files. Ability to communicate municipal accounting practices and requirements to other municipal wide and external agencies. Skills in assisting with the development and revision of operating institution and procedures, assisting with the development and maintenance of internal record keeping and accounting controls, and assisting Senior Staff Accountants in the completion of their duties. Perform other required duties as assigned.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and five (5) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
OR
Associate’s degree in Accounting, or a related discipline, and three (3) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related discipline, and one (1) year of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
OR
A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and one (1) year of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.
Must possess the ability to:
- Operate personal computer, accounting software, and other office machines to accomplish accounting duties.
- Work on the computerized SAP accounting software.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran.
