What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELEVATOR INSPECTOR - Range 26-115% / IBEW position at Municipality of Anchorage?
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547.
DEPARTMENT: Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore RoadInspect elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, stair lifts, and other hoisting devices periodically for safety/code compliance. Inspect installation of new elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, stair lifts, and other hoisting devices for compliance with code and approved plans. Perform other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess or obtain the following:
- Valid State of Alaska driver's license at time of hire.
- Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) Certification at time of hire.
Elevator Inspector applicants who do not possess a current QEI certificate may substitute four (4) years of documented journeyman elevator mechanic experience and obtain a QEI Certificate within two (2) years of hire.
OR
Be a current Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) Inspector with a State of Alaska Electrician Journeyman Certificate of Fitness and obtain a QEI Certificate within three (3) years of hire.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory submission of a valid American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) Certification. Candidate will be required to obtain the certification within the required timeframe and maintain a current certification for the duration of employment. If candidate fails to obtain and maintain certification, employment will be terminated.
This offer of employment is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547 Union.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
