LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - Range 11 / ENG

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Sunday, hours vary, including nights

LOCATION: 5701 Northwood Drive

Under the general supervision, operates various types of light equipment, and performs manual labor to accomplish street maintenance activities including but not limited to: patching potholes, replace/repair sidewalks, cut brush, and snow removal from trails and sidewalks. Assist in the equipment maintenance including oiling, greasing, and changing wear surfaces on various types of equipment. Perform other required duties as assigned.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year of experience in the operation of light equipment.

Must possess and/or obtain:

• Valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver’s License, Class B (CDLB), with Tank endorsement at time of hire.
• Satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
• Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

Preference:

• Flagger certification.

As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405 (f) and (h). 

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

 

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
