These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; Monday through Sunday; between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m
.LOCATION(S): Spenard Recreation Center: 2020 West 48th Avenue or Fairview recreation Center, 1221 E. 10th Ave
These seasonal, part-time positions (working between 30 to 38 hours per week), are estimated to begin on May 12, 2025 and will end on September 12, 2025. Applicants from this job opportunity announcement may be used to fill other seasonal, part-time Recreation Specialist I positions within the Anchorage Parks and Recreation department with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Must possess a current Pediatric American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the equivalent at the time of hire
Must be at least 18 years of age on or before May 12, 2025.
- Experience working with youth and adults in a recreation environment.
- Experience in a community recreation center setting.
- Previous experience organizing and leading indoor and outdoor activities for ages 6 - 12 in a summer day camp setting.
If selected for hire, the applicant must be capable of frequently bending, twisting, and kneeling. Applicant must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent.
IIf selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
All required certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
An individual currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
