Position Summary : The ADON takes on some of the responsibilities of the nursing department, as may be delegated. He / she assists and supports the translation of the nursing philosophy of the center into nursing practice by practicing in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
1. Assists and participates in the development, organization and implementation of
the philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures and standards of nursing care in accordance with the goals of the Care Center Facility care and the individual
center.
2. Confers with the Director of Nursing in assessing the quality of nursing care
being delivered and recognizes the need for improving or changing nursing
practices.
3. Assists with the development, direction, participation and evaluation of the
orientation program for nursing personnel; responsible for orientation of new
nursing employees, as assigned.
4. Makes daily rounds to evaluate customer care, the progress of individual
employees, monitor nursing practices, and assist personnel with nursing and
educational needs.
5. Remains cognizant of legal aspects of nursing practice, as well as government
regulations; demonstrates this in teaching, supervision, and evaluation of
customer care;
6. Performs rehabilitation assessments upon all new admission and, as requested, for
existing customers throughout the center;
7. Performs or supervises the performance of restorative nursing;
8. Serves as a liaison with all therapists : physical, occupational, and speech;
9. Assures that the customer's individualized care plan is followed;
10. Participates in Customer Care Plan Committee;
11. Oversees the completion of the customer Minimum Data Set
12. Assumes responsibility for utilization review procedures, as assigned;
13. Acts as on-call nursing clinical resource person, as scheduled;
14. Serve in the role of Medicare Services Coordinator as needed;
15. Puts Customer Service First : Ensures that customers and families receive the
highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which
recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
16. Performs other duties as requested;
Specific Educational / Vocational Requirements :
1. The ADON must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current
registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
2. A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent clinical experience plus
previous nurse management experience preferred.
Job Skills :
1. Must have thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and practices.
2. Must have thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and
equipment used in the area to which assigned.
3. Must have knowledge of medications, their proper dosage and expected results.
4. Must have ability to coordinate and supervise the nursing functions in an effective
manner.
5. Must posses the ability to positively interact with personnel, customers, family
members, visitors, government agencies / personnel and the general public.
6. Must have ability to maintain an empathetic attitude toward customers and to gain
of a technical nature.
7. Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the
English language, which may be of a technical nature
8. Must have ability to recognize and identify symptoms and to make decisions
quickly in emergencies.
9. Must have ability to train subordinates in work procedures and to organize and direct training carried out by members of the staff.
10. Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Performs Related Duties :
1. The ADON interacts with customers, families, visitors, center and Care Center
Facility subsidiary personnel.
2. He / She carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on
intervention participation may be required.
