General Job Description:
The staff member will work with administrators, special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, TN Department of Education and other staff to implement and ensure the provision of related services, including Assistive Technology (AT), for students with disabilities in the Murfreesboro City School district.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Valid educator license in the state of Tennessee as a special education teacher, administrator, or related services of equivalent licensing such as Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or other qualified professional certification
- Minimum 5 years' classroom or related service provider experience
- Needs to be familiar with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology (AT) tools and strategies for students with various disabilities
- Working knowledge of the RTI2 education model
- Working knowledge of state and federal rules and guidelines for various related services under IDEA (i.e., ST, OT, PT, AT, vision, hearing, etc.)
- Knowledge and understanding of standards set by national associations for speech/language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adaptive P.E., etc.
- Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- General knowledge of IDEA rules and laws set by local, state and federal agencies
Physical Demands: Must be able to travel to outlying schools within district. Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. Must have and maintain physical, sensory, emotional and mental abilities necessary for effective communication in person, in writing and by telephone. Must have good memory, be able to organize thoughts and activities, do basic mathematical computations and articulate clearly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities and services of related service providers for Murfreesboro City School district, including non-public school services
- Develop, coordinate, and help provide professional development to Murfreesboro City Schools related service providers, teachers, staff and others
- Attend IEP meetings as needed to support related service providers
- Develop, coordinate, and implement processes and procedures for related service providers as they relate to best practices and compliance
- Assist with department budgeting for Assistive Technology (AT) tools and related service provider needs and staffing
- Work with parents and guardians to help understand IDEA processes as they relate to related services
- Maintain a flow of communication between Public Consulting Group (PCG) and related service providers to ensure Medicaid billing processes are followed for maximum reimbursement
- Serve as the initial point of contact for Medicaid billing and reimbursement questions
- Coordinate with universities, human resources department, and legal department regarding student placements for related service providers
- Maintain a flow of communication between schools, central office, TN Department of Education, and parents
- Engage in professional development for best practice
- Engage in recruitment/retention efforts of Murfreesboro City School district as it relates to related service providers
- Comply with all Murfreesboro City School district and TN Department of Education policies and administrative regulations
- Complete Assistive Technology (AT) evaluations (including AAC), write reports, and procure AT equipment for students
- Assume other tasks as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Special Education Director and/or the Director of Schools
Staff Relationship: Reports directly to Director of Special Education
Terms of Employment: Eleven-month employee. Salary and benefits set annually. Exempt
