Department: Surgicenter
Job Title: Preadmission Nurse
Hours: Part Time/PRN
Reports to: Team Leader/Surgicenter Manager
Purpose of job: Interviews operative patients and ascertains history and communicates with anesthesia regarding any abnormalities or risks. Assures and documents patient understanding of preoperative instructions and all preoperative testing and registration is completed.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and have a current Tennessee Registered Nursing license
Must have at least 2 years nursing experience and is knowledgeable about nursing practice in the perioperative setting
BLS required; ACLS certification recommended
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work without close supervision
Must be able to work forty (40) hours per week and overtime as deemed necessary by the supervisor, if applicable
Must be self-motivated, professional and maintain a positive attitude
Must have good verbal and written communication skills
Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Records)
Job Duties:
Assumes the role of patient advocate by protecting the patients’ safety, rights, privacy and dignity.
Records accurate data in nurses notes
Reports health concerns and risks to MDA or CRNA
Assures that charts are complete and reports irregularities to appropriate personnel
Assists in emergency situations
Assures that all pre-op orders and procedures are performed
Checks equipment and supplies.
Assists with orientation and in-service education on new personnel as needed
Responsible for taking preoperative history and nursing assessment.
Relieves personnel as needed or required
Maintains a safe, quiet, clean environment for patient and self
Maintains good health, personality, and has satisfactory hearing and eyesight
Able to handle stressful situations for short periods of time
Able to stand or sit for long hours at a time
Uses good body mechanics
Promotes open communication with family and health professionals regarding care of the patient
Abides by employee handbook in regards to sick time, vacations and holidays as well as dress code
Is knowledgeable of OSHA guidelines
Assists with other tasks, clerical and non-nursing function as needed
Essential Functions:
Ability to meet or exceed patient, doctor and staff expectations with quality service
Performs EKGs as needed
Education of patient/family member about perioperative experience.
Perform other duties as assigned by team leader or manager.
