Job Summary
The Sr Contracts Specialist serves as an internal resource and external contact for management and administration of contracts. This position reports to the Global Contracts team in the Supply Chain department and is crucial for providing comprehensive support in contract review, drafting, and negotiations.
Responsibilities include providing support to Murphy's upstream divisions and projects, addressing the most critical contractual and commercial needs of our corporate support functions and teams. This includes support for our domestic and international drilling teams, onshore and offshore production teams, major construction projects, and related engineering and technical services.
Expectations of this role include making key contributions to maintaining the health of the SCM discipline via peer reviews, training and coaching as well as being directly involved in significant projects impacting the business unit's performance objectives.
The position will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with other service groups (e.g., SCM, Legal, IT, HSE, Finance, Insurance & Operations) to ensure their requirements are effectively addressed in contracting documents and procedures, and implemented across Murphy's upstream divisions and projects
- Develop, implement, and maintain an appropriate suite of contract documents to ensure operational consistency across Murphy
- Develop, implement, and maintain detailed contracts management work processes reflecting best ethical and business practices, and that ensure operational consistency across Murphy
- Monitor new and innovative practices within the industry and continuously improving contracting procedures and documents based on these learnings
- Monitor compliance with approved documents and Contract Management procedures and recommending corrective actions as required
- Identify and leverage synergies across Murphy's operational divisions, including through the implementation of key contractor agreements and master service agreements
- Ensure comprehensive contracting strategies and plans are prepared that reflect the project's execution plan and result in best value for the project
- Monitor internal client satisfaction with contracts and recommending corrective actions as required
- Manage contracts with suppliers to ensure supplier compliance; evaluate supplier performance through review of reports and client feedback; resolve issues and implement solutions to address negative supplier performance
- Together with SCM colleagues, develop new country entry contracting strategies that comply with all local laws, customs and with Productions Sharing Agreements or Joint Operating Agreements terms
- Participate on SCM sourcing teams for the research, bid and contract management of supplies and services
- Participate in strategic planning to target future cost savings
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Assist in the development of annual business objectives for the Global Contracts team.
- Forecasts market category developments and Murphy demand
- Works with and leads senior multi-disciplinary and cross business teams
- Acts as an expert and is regarded as a leading authority within Murphy
- Leads multi-discipline negotiating teams in complex negotiations
- Demonstrates full understanding of negotiation dynamics and consistently utilizes successful negotiating and influencing behaviors
- Trains and coaches others around complex negotiating and influencing techniques
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous / extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
