Position Summary:

The equipment operator/forklift is responsible for the safe operation of a forklift at a recycling facility efficiently and safely. This position is a first shift position with a start time of 8am and end time of 5pm.

Your Role:

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspection following Company policy to ensure windows, lights, and mirrors are clean. Safely and efficiently operate equipment that may include forklifts and other equipment using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor recycling for evidence of unacceptable waste in materials
• Continuously monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize downtown; clean tracks or wheels on equipment, as needed.
• Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop for repair.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure that the work area is clean after each shift, including screens.
• Participate in all required Company meetings, including weekly safety meetings.
• Maintains reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.

Your Skills:

• Experience operating a forklift.
• Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
• Good follow-through ability: ability to adhere to work schedule and follow through on challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules.
• Promotes the Company's safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks.
• Ability to complete safety, operational, and other required training within a scheduled period.

• Demonstrated mechanical ability sufficient to complete routine tasks.
• Demonstrated success in the use of required safety equipment.
• Gritty, outgoing, and eager to learn.
• Strong communication (verbally and written)
• Strong interpersonal skills

Desirable, although not essential, requirements:

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent
• 2 years experience as an equipment operator in a plant environment; or 5 years related experience which includes training in a plant environment.
• Experience operating a forklift
• Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner
• Good follow-up through the ability
• Ability to adhere to a work schedule and follow through on challenges as they arise.
