What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Principal position at Murray Avenue School?
An Assistant Principal is sought to provide additional student oversight at Murray Avenue School (Grades 4-6), to investigate and handle student disciplinary matters, and to assist with educational activities, including scheduling and teacher observations. This position would start on July 1, 2025.
The essential duties are:
- Assist with implementing and evaluating the school’s curriculum, special programs, and extracurricular student activities.
- Assist with providing leadership, professional assistance and staff development programs to professional and support personnel members.
- Implement student discipline and maintain records for all referrals and related documentation.
- Provide orientation and staff development training to new and current teachers and staff.
- Create, maintain, and implement a master schedule for the building, including coverage for modified assembly and co-curricular schedules.
- Oversee the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process at the building level, ensuring effective implementation of interventions and data-driven decision-making to support all students' academic, social, and emotional needs. This includes collaborating with staff to identify students requiring support, monitoring progress, and adjusting interventions as needed.
- Attend administrative, school, and community meetings, functions, and events that may occur during and after school and all other meetings as requested by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent.
- Assist building principal in the selection process for professional and support staff.
- Assist principal with annual observation and evaluation process for professional staff, including creating staff annual goals.
- Coordinate building substitute coverage, employee requests, and lunch and recess coverage.
- Collaborate with Special Education employees to create and implement plans and supervise identified students needing services.
- Assist with communications for building and student issues with parents, District, county, and community parties.
- Assist with administering state testing and special education programs, including attending applicable training.
- Coordinate building safety and all related building maintenance issues in collaboration with the Maintenance and Operations Department.
- Assume responsibilities for all administrative duties in the absence of the building principal.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master’s degree;
- Active Pennsylvania Principal K-12 certification;
- A minimum of 5 years experience in teaching and/or administration at the secondary level;
- The ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the community.
This is a full-time, 12-months position in Act 93.
