Job Summary:
A Powertrain Differential, Gears, and E-Axle New Product Development Engineer plays an essential role in designing and developing innovative components for automotive powertrains. This role is a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and vehicle dynamics expertise.
The Powertrain Differential, Gears, and E-Axle New Product Development Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing new powertrain components, and ensuring the efficiency, performance, and reliability of a vehicle's powertrain system.
Reports to: Development Manager
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Min 3 years of experience in automotive engineering, with a focus on powertrain components.
Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and drawing creation.
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality control.
Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
Knowledge of electric vehicle (EV) technology is a plus for E-Axle development.
Job Responsibilities:
Design and develop differential systems, gears, and E-axles for various vehicle types, including conventional and electric vehicles, following stage gate process for product development and process report out.
Conduct detailed engineering analysis, simulations, and calculations to optimize product performance.
Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create prototypes and conduct testing to validate designs and make necessary improvements.
Build and test prototypes of powertrain components to validate design concepts.
Conduct various tests, including durability, noise, vibration, and thermal testing, to ensure product performance meets specifications.
Analyze test data and iterate on designs based on test results.
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for components, considering factors like cost, weight, and performance.
Work with suppliers to source materials and components for prototyping and production.
Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate electric motors, inverters, and controllers into the E-axle design.
Ensure seamless communication between electrical and mechanical components.
Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in materials and manufacturing processes, and emerging technologies related to powertrain components.
Ensure that designs comply with safety and environmental standards.
Manage project budgets and resources effectively to meet cost targets.
Identify cost-saving opportunities in design and manufacturing.
Maintain detailed records of design iterations, test results, and design changes.
Prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
