Summary

This position will be in charge of analysis of capital assets for the Health System and maintenance of roll-forwards for assets and accumulated depreciation. This position is also in charge of providing support for monthly changes in capital assets and communicating them to Management for monthly close.

Job Description
Recording of capital assets, including the compilation of supporting documentation and monitoring work-in-process accounts to determine capitalization. Must follow internal procedures and protocol as it relates completing documents, such as providing relevant purchase orders or invoice support. Regular communication with the Support Service area after an asset is identified or tagged and ensure this process is handled timely and accurately.
Maintain an up-to-date subledger of capital assets for all markets. This includes monthly reconciliations of asset roll-forwards for both the asset balances and accumulated depreciation. These records must tie to general ledger and any variances are resolved timely. Includes all types of capital assets, including but not limited to vehicles, major movable equipment, buildings, building improvements and software. Must work closely with general ledger on recording and capitalization of right-of-use assets for property and equipment as it pertains to GASB 87. Requires fixed asset balances reconcile back to the lease software and prepare right-of-use (ROU) schedules for year-end audit. Maintain regular communication with division managers and departments to make comply with MUHA policy on capitalizing assets and projects. Includes review of projects in the planning stage so formal review can be budgeted in the correct account. Must also interact with project managers in Construction and Design and other regions. Also serve as resource to the organization to review and answer questions about pending projects.
Calculation of depreciation and accumulated depreciation is completed within the timelines of monthly interim close. Analysis must be provided during close to Leadership to address variances to budget or updates on major projects. Review all new capital projects to insure that they have been approved by the Board and meet qualifications per policy to be capitalized. Monitor capital project spending monthly to ensure they are recorded to the correct project and meet policy to be capitalized. Once projects are completed, they must be properly reflected in the sub-ledger so that they can be capitalized.
Summarize and organize workpapers on a consolidated basis as well as by market and / or facility, if necessary. Support and tick mark balances and the transaction detail level with appropriate documentation. Assist with the year-end audit. Submit workpapers within a timeline and work with the external auditors to provide additional support as needed. This includes assistance with compiling footnotes and coordination with other general ledger team members in analysis of account balances.
A bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and four (4) years work experience in a business-related area such as accounting, business, audit or finance. Strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; a solid working knowledge of Workday, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Outlook software; Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat software is a plus.
Requirements :
Preferred : A bachelor’s degree in accounting with hospital / healthcare-based work experience; MBA, CHFP or CPA designation a plus.
