Summary
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will evaluate, plan, and implement therapy programs for patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing impairments across various settings, including outpatient, acute, and inpatient rehabilitation. They will provide preventive, corrective, and restorative speech therapy using a broad range of techniques. The SLP will teach and adapt these practices for patients, families, and other professional and paraprofessional personnel, promoting optimal health outcomes. Responsibilities include performing initial assessments, developing and adjusting treatment plans, administering therapeutic exercises and activities, and supervising SLP and other students. The role requires maintaining accurate documentation, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and demonstrating consistent attendance and reliability. The SLP will stay current with evidence-based practices and adhere to institutional policies, guidelines, and protocols to provide the highest standard of care.

Key Responsibilities
1. Patient-Centered Care
- Perform comprehensive evaluations and assessments of patients' speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Administer and oversee therapeutic speech-language pathology interventions.
- Monitor and document patients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- May perform Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) or Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) studies if trained and proficient within personal and professional scope.
2. Collaboration and Communication
Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.Participate in care conferences to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.Effectively communicate with patients, their families, team members, and other partners and stakeholders to foster a collaborative and patient-centered approach to care.May collaborate with the oncology clinic to address speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing needs of oncology patients.3. Documentation
Perform point-of-service documentation where possible, ensuring accurate and timely recording of patient evaluations, progress, treatment interventions, and charges.Maintain patient records in compliance with legal and institutional requirements.4. Professional Development and Adherence to Standards
Engage in continuous learning and professional development to maintain licensure and provide high-quality care.Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in speech-language pathology.Follow all institutional policies, guidelines, and protocols related to patient care and safety.Maintain compliance with ethical and professional standards in speech-language pathology. May participate in creating and / or reviewing policies and procedures.May develop, conduct and participate in formal in-service programs.5. Customer Experience

Demonstrate consistent attendance and reliability to ensure continuous patient care and departmental efficiency.11. Additional Duties

Current Certificate of Clinical Competence for Speech-Language Pathologists (CCC-SLP) and state licensure in South Carolina, or an interim Speech-Language Pathology license for clinical fellows.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.Compassion, patience, and empathy when working with patients.Knowledge of speech-language pathology principles and techniques.Understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing speech-language pathology.Work Environment
SLPs can work in various settings within the hospital, including outpatient, acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation. The role may involve exposure to hot or noisy environments and working in or around areas with radiation as part of Modified Barium Swallow Studies.Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear.Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25% of the time, 25 pounds 50% of the time, and up to 50 pounds 25% of the time.Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Age Competencies

Job Description
