Job Description

Summary

This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position as an educator in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Program within the College of Nursing (CON). The qualified candidate is expected to support the teaching mission of the college via didactic and clinical teaching effort primarily within the ABSN program, through educating, mentoring, guiding and remediating student performance in didactic and clinical courses. Specifically, this position will require designing, implementing and leading practice readiness seminars to facilitate development and growth of professional practice competencies in prelicensure and post-licensure nursing students. Teaching effort may be allocated to the RN-BSN program as well depending on programmatic needs.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications :

Earned Master’s degree in Nursing. Demonstrated expertise in systems-thinking and evidence-based practice, quality improvement, patient safety and nursing professional practice is required. Unencumbered, active license as a registered nurse in South Carolina or another compact state. Current BLS certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Military Training Network. Recent (2-3 years) of patient care and / or supervision of students in didactic / clinical settings. If the candidate does not have an earned doctoral degree and is not currently enrolled in a doctoral program, they must be enrolled in a doctoral program within 2 years of hire. A record of teaching, scholarship, practice that merits the rank of instructor or above. This is not a remote work position, so candidates must relocate to Charleston upon hire if they do not live locally.

Preferred Qualifications :

The preferred candidate will have a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field and a robust background in preparing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students for clinical practice. This includes recent experience teaching didactic courses both face-to-face and online, with a focus on developing critical thinking, clinical judgment, and practice readiness in prelicensure nursing students. Candidates with experience designing and implementing practice-readiness curricula, facilitating simulation-based learning and debriefing, and mentoring BSN students to meet professional practice standards are highly desirable. Additionally, prior experience in both prelicensure and post-licensure nursing education is preferred.

Formal Accountability : Reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs

Responsibilities :

a.    Teach students in the baccalaureate programs via didactic instruction

b.    Supervise pre-licensure students in clinical settings, skills lab, and the simulation center

c.    Curriculum / program planning, development, and evaluation

d.    Facilitate and implement evidence based innovative teaching strategies in classroom and clinical settings

e.    Adheres to MUSC and College of Nursing Policies

f.    Maintains proficiency as an educator
