Job Description Summary

The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Otolaryngology, invites applications for a full-time, 2-year post-doctoral fellowship position, focusing on cochlear implants in both the clinical and research setting. Candidates must be recent AuD graduates who are looking to enhance their knowledge in pediatric and adult cochlear implantation. MUSC provides care for more than 2000 patients with cochlear implants, and we implant more than 200 devices yearly. In addition, we have very active, NIH-funded hearing and cochlear implant research programs.

The Department of Otolaryngology includes six Otologists, six Pediatric Otolaryngologists and 19 audiologists. Cochlear implant services are provided at the main campus of MUSC in downtown Charleston as well as satellite locations.

Salary is commensurate with the NIH post-doctoral pay scale.

Job Description

Responsibilities include providing diagnostic and therapeutic audiology services for the cochlear implant program including adult and pediatric evaluations, candidacy determination, intra-operative testing, and post-operative programming. The fellowship experience will also include active participation in cochlear implant research, and active research mentorship with MUSC faculty.

(Frequent) Ability to push/pull objects, up to 200 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be able to maintain bi-lateral hand movement skills. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.

Additional New Requirements: Ability to maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
