What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer I or II position at Muscatine Power and Water?
Job Purpose
- Monitor and coordinate current construction and maintenance projects. Including:
- Work with contractors and consultants.
- Periodically review and update construction standards and practices.
- Apply engineering principles to the evaluation and selection of planning alternatives.
- Assist in the design and layout of electrical transmission and distribution lines. Review work orders and coordinate work as necessary.
- Assist in the coordination, interpretation, and preparation of electrical transmission and distribution system studies, computer models, load flow analyses, and short circuit studies.
- Coordinate engineering activities with industrial and commercial customers. Activities include MP&W policy, technical details (including power factor and harmonics), and general assistance with electric service installations. This may include:
- Assist in writing and evaluating major equipment specifications and contracts, including transformer and cable specifications. Contracts include pole attachment agreements, easements, and franchise agreements.
- Support utility arc flash studies and supply data for customer studies.
- Assist Chief Operations Engineer with technical problems related to the operation and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution, water, technical services, generation, and telecommunications systems.
- Assist Planning Engineer in running and analyzing compliance studies for NERC, MRO, and MISO.
- Assist with overall system reliability improvement efforts, including the development, population, and use of databases used to track failure, maintenance, and outage issues.
- Assist in the development of the annual operating budget and appropriate projections for the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
