Muscatine Power and Water - Summer Internship in the Supply Chain Services Department
The Muscatine Power and Water (MPW) Supply Chain Services Department Internship does not require prior knowledge but will help the selected person gain a better understanding of Supply Chain tasks and opportunities. The intern will have access to support and resources as needed and will have an opportunity for independent work.
Job Description
All the members of the Supply Chain Services Department will support the intern and help answer questions as they come up. In addition, the group will meet regularly to track/steer project progress, identify tasks and additional resources needed for upcoming tasks.
Time Frame
The intern is projected to work 40 hours/week for 9-10 weeks, beginning in late May, but some time off can be scheduled within that time frame.

Job Description
- Learn established practices for processing requests for quotation, purchase orders, expediting, and inventory level evaluation.
- Collaborate with buyers to explore system opportunities to reduce repetitive tasks. This may include exploring:
- Blanket Purchase Order opportunities
- New uses of system data with the aim of improving efficiencies and effectiveness
- Technical tools, routines, or processes that offer improvements over current methods.
- Work with data to identify opportunities for item/vendor consolidation.
- Work with data and buyers to identify opportunities for vendor pricing programs.
- Collaborate with buyers in preparing for and participating in vendor discussions.
- Assist buyers in processing annual budgetary requests for quotation.
