Description
Job Purpose
Maintain all water production facilities (pumping, chemical treatment, wells, etc.) to ensure safe delivery to the customer.
Specific Responsibilities
- Perform all duties with regard to operation and maintenance of the water pumping and chemical treatment system. This includes operating and maintaining pumping equipment, chemical treatment equipment, water production wells, and performing water quality tests per MPW and IDNR requirements.
Other Responsibilities
Assist in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and general property as needed, including snow removal.Maintain a culture of safety within the department. Support the Utility's safety programs, complete training appropriate for the position, and provide safe working conditions and practices.Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the department. Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the department.Other duties as assigned.Position Requirements
Qualifications
Knowledge
High school graduate or equivalent.Must be able to obtain and maintain a Grade 2 Water Treatment Operators License within 3 years of hire.Basic chemistry and math skills.Must be able to analyze water in such a manner to be certified by the State of Iowa (Utility's bacteria lab is state-certified).Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all audiences, including customers both internally to MPW and externally with the general public.Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.Proficiency with use of computers and mobile devices, including email, calendar, Internet browsers, and the Microsoft Office suite of products at an intermediate level.Good problem identification, analysis, and solving skills.Problem identification, analysis, and solving.Abilities
Ability to work as part of a team, either as team leader or a member of a team.Ability to drive results and ensure work is accomplished properly, safely, and in a timely manner.Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust work priorities as needed to meet department / organizational objectives.Must have mechanical aptitude and be comfortable working with hand, power, and hydraulic tools of all sizes.Ability to develop, read, and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals. Must possess a valid driver's license. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A certification beneficial.Must comply with the Utility's Residency Policy.Must be able to attend work on a regular basis and work overtime as needed.Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MPW outside normal work hours.Must complete training for respiratory protection and confined space entry.Work Environment
