PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assesses students' functional physical development level; plans and implements appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives; identifying architectural barriers; provides recommendations for accessibility, program development and student placement; and provides direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants
REQUIREMENTS: | |
1. Educational Level: | Bachelors degree in job-related area |
2. Certification/License: | Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the State of Georgia; Valid GA Driver's License |
3. Experience: | Prefer one year clinical experience in physical/occupational therapy including pediatrics |
4. Physical Activities: | Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities |
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: | Written and oral communication, planning, organization |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Administers occupational therapy procedures and modalities.
- Assesses students' fine and gross motor skills and functional abilities (e.g. perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.).
- Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals).
- Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals to develop plans for services, make recommendations and/or coordinate occupational therapy services.
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Develops treatment plans, interventions, and/or educational materials.
- Directs the work of assigned COTAs.
- Identifies structural issues to remove barriers for students with physical limitations and/or identifying appropriate assistive technology.
- Instructs students and staff for the purpose of providing information on medical/behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices and/or implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations.
- Interprets medical reports to provide information and/or ensure that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
- Maintains files and/or records to ensure the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
- Performs site visits at multiple work sites including home visits to provide direct therapy interventions and assistance as required.
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials to document activities, provide written reference, and convey information.
- Provides direct occupational therapy service for the purpose of developing students daily living skills in compliance with established goals and objectives.
- Researches resources and methods to determine appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.
- Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
- Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites.
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
