PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assist assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of visually impaired students; enhance the effectiveness of learning opportunities for students with visual impairments.
REQUIREMENTS: |

1. Educational Level: |
Minimum 60 semester/100 quarter hours of eligible college hours OR passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test (www.gace.ets.org) required. If submitting GACE scores, you will also need to provide verification of completion of a HS diploma or GED. |
2. Certification/License: |
Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which include in-service training related to position |

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. |
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: |
Use of literary and Nemeth braille for reading, writing, and transition purposes meeting the standards as prescribed by the National Library Service; typing and keyboarding skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. |
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. |
2. |
Assists the Visual Impairment Program professionals in the preparation and implementation of instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans. |
3. |
Assists classroom teacher with the record keeping process and data collection. |
4. |
Participates in school functions, field trips and extracurricular activities as indicated under the direction of the teacher. |
5. |
Participates in on-going in-service training. |
6. |
Assists with hall duty and bus loading and unloading as directed. |
7. |
Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purporse of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials. |
8. |
Administers assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, food preparation,etc. and other delegated medical procedures) as required for assigned students. |
9. |
Assists with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position. |
10. |
Assist the VI staff with modifications and supplemental services necessary for the education of students with visual impairments |
11. |
Uses braille translation software as well as word processig programs on PC computers |
12. |
Orders, returns, and distributes large print and braille books under teacher's supervision |
13. |
Monitors the classroom during teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities/planning which require the teacher to be out of the room. |
14. |
Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator. |
