JOB SUMMARY :
The purpose of the position is to serve as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Ambulatory Health Center on a continuing basis performing a variety of duties involving basic and technical procedures for patients seen in the health center.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :
1. Knowledge and skill sufficient to perform a moderately difficult range of nursing care.
2. Knowledge of human body structure, function, illnesses, and / or disease entities and skill sufficient to communicate with nurses, patients, family members and clinic staff.
3. Knowledge and skill to interview and assess patients for complaints.
4. Knowledge and skill sufficient to assess immunization status and to administer immunizations in accordance with current immunization schedules and to recognize contraindications and adverse reactions.
5. Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare dosages, administer medications, and recognize contraindications of prescribed medications.
6. Knowledge and skill sufficient to respond to emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed in an ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following :
1. Performs duties of the Ambulatory Health Center Nursing Department.
2.Follows established procedures to prepare the patient for examination and / or treatment by the provider.
3. Ascertains that patients are seen in proper order with recognition that emergencies must be handled without delay and patients must not be unduly exposed to a contagious disease.
4. Under direction of the Medical Staff, administers medications by various routes, i.e., oral, parenteral, intramuscular, etc. from stock supply of drugs, which do not necessitate calculations of fractional doses.
5. Assists with the escort or transport of patients to other departments as necessary.
6. Carries out required diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as vital signs, wound care, EKG's, etc. necessary in providing adequate health care.
7. Under the direction of the Medical Staff, makes calls to patients to discuss result management, provides education on disease management and ensures appropriate follow-up care is scheduled, i.e., repeat lab testing, referrals, etc.
8. Completes necessary records, reports, and prepares requests for specific tests or professional services in accordance with established policies.
9. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment in department, examination, and treatment rooms; assembles supplies necessary to perform daily clinical tasks.
10. Will screen, interview, and observe patient for complaints. Will assist with triage by referring patients to RN or physician for further evaluation. Determines need for immunizations, for routine follow-up patient appointments in regard to well child assessment, further evaluation and / or treatment for positive laboratory reports, and other areas as needed. Actively participates in patient-family teaching.
11. Utilizes direct contact with patients for health teaching related to self-care and preventive health.
12. Regular attendance is required.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education - Graduation from an accredited practical nursing curriculum is required.
Experience - One (1) year's relevant experience as a member of a nursing team is preferred.
Licenses & Certification - Incumbent is required to possess current licensure by the State of Oklahoma or National Council of State Boards of Nursing for Practical Nursing and current CPR certification.
