Exhibit Technician Job Description
Muse Knoxville is seeking a dedicated and skilled Exhibit Technician whose primary job is to maintain and repair Muse Knoxville’s interactive learning exhibits and building. Exhibit Technicians must be thoughtful problem-solvers who seek to make our visitor's experience enjoyable through regular maintenance of the museum. Their work at Muse Knoxville ensures that our museum is able to run effectively and smoothly.
SCHEDULE: Part Time, 20-30 hours per week - Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, plus weekends as needed
SALARY RANGE: $21-25/hr, depending on experience

AS AN EXHIBIT TECHNICIAN, YOU WILL …
- Be involved in the vetting, purchasing, delivery and installation of new exhibits
- Inspect exhibits daily and communicate with the Director of Education and Exhibits to promptly identify any damage, malfunction, or wear in exhibits
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on interactive exhibit components, many of which contain mechanical or electric devices
- Identify and diagnose chronic or systemic defects in individual exhibits which reduce their efficiency and reliability, or compromise their intended function. Make adjustments, modifications, refurbishments, and upgrades to improve function and reliability while preserving the visitor experience, educational content, and design impact of the exhibit.
- Work with the Director of Education and Exhibits to ensure exhibit manuals, documentation, and maintenance/repair tracking logs are properly maintained, accessible, and in current form
- Assist in meeting needs and solving issues with a positive, courteous, and professional attitude
- Attend bi-weekly safety meetings with the Director of Education and Exhibits
- Complete light landscape maintenance including weeding, mowing, and leaf and snow removal
- Perform regular building maintenance as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds and physical stamina for working hours on feet
- Strong organizational, good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude
- Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electronic systems
- Proactive initiative for identifying solutions to problems
- Demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of fabrication materials and processes involving wood, metal, and plastics, and experience with a variety of finishing techniques. Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
- Knowledge and practice of workplace safety
- Capable of coordinating efforts and collaborating with repair vendors as needed
- A willingness to learn a wide variety of new skills
- Clear communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision, follow deadlines, and follow up on assignments
- Conscientious and detail-oriented; must have an appreciation of the necessity of craftsmanship and quality, and the ability to follow through with paperwork, record-keeping, and documentation
- Enthusiasm for science, technology, creativity, and education
- Post high school course work, technical degree, associate’s degree, business or vocational certificate preferred
- Must pass a background check
