Assistant Registrar, Outgoing Loans (Regular, Full-Time)
Registration & Collections
Reporting to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Outgoing Loans, the Assistant Registrar, Outgoing Loans will coordinate all aspects of loaning artwork owned by LACMA to other fine art institutions.
Responsibilities:
- Processes new loans requests for LACMA’s collection, including securing internal approvals and presenting to the Loans Committee
- Communicates with borrowing institutions to acknowledge loan requests and gather supporting information
- Maintains and updates loan information in the The Museum System (TMS) database
- Prepares shipping documents and drafting courier documents
- Coordinates the packing plan with LACMA art handlers and conservators, overseeing unpacking/packing appointments, and creating packing instructions
- Releases and receives shipments
- Reviews and approves Facility Reports, gathering climate readings from other institutions;
- Creates and negotiates loan contracts for loans
- Requests crating estimates and books crate fabrication
- Coordinates the schedule and work requests with museum departments to prepare, move, and pack loans before shipping, as well as the reverse for loans returning to LACMA
- Pays and prepares invoices
- Archives outgoing loan files
- Involves some travel locally: off-site storage, other museums and the airport for art pick-up and delivery which will include some after hours and weekend appointments
- Acts as a virtual courier to oversee loans in transit and to communicate with shipping agents and the borrower throughout the shipment
- Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
Benefits:
- The expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $27.40 - $29.80, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA’s comprehensive benefits package, including pension plan.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- A Minimum of two years of experience in museum registration, outgoing loan-related is preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge of standard museum practices and procedures
- Knowledge of domestic art shipping is preferred
- Database knowledge (TMS experience is preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Google applications is required
