CC Foundation and David Chau Fellow (Regular Full-Time)

Reporting to the Executive Assistant & Director’s Office Fellow, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CC Foundation and David Chau Fellow to support the Director’s Office in aiding the museum’s global partnerships, as well as advancing scholarship, and supporting the development and collections management of our Asian diasporic art collection and programs, specifically that of artists of Chinese descent who have so long been overlooked. The position will have regular contact with staff at all levels, specifically the Chinese and Korean Art Curatorial Department and the Head of Director’s Strategic Initiatives, Asia in the Development Department, as well as contact with external stakeholders and the public. The fellow will gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the museum's goals and learning about the various aspects of curatorial work, collection management, and development. The CC Foundation and David Chau Fellow will also provide daily ongoing administrative support, including but not limited to tasks related to the Director’s schedule, correspondence, research, and communications. This position in the Director’s Office reports directly to the Executive Administrator and Fellow.
This is a limited term position and would have a projected end date of 2.5 years from the hire date.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director’s Executive Assistant and Fellow, the CC Foundation and David Chau Fellow will be deeply committed to LACMA's mission of inclusive access, collaboration, and dialogue and will be encouraged to work with colleagues across LACMA's departments.
Conduct research on the museum's collections, potential acquisitions, or specific artists and art movements. This may involve studying historical documents and academic literature and consulting with experts.
Help with the care and documentation of the museum’s collection of Asian diasporic art. This includes updating records, cataloging new acquisitions, and ensuring proper storage and conservation practices.
Serve as project liaison for acquisitions, collection management, and programming with the Director’s Office and participating stakeholders to ensure successful communication between all departments and global partners. Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and participants by phone, email, and Zoom.
Collaborate on creating educational materials and programs related to exhibitions and the museum’s collection. This can involve working with, but not limited to, the Education and Development departments to develop lectures, tours, and workshops for diverse audiences.
Engage with the public through tours, talks, and social media. This may involve giving presentations or creating content that helps communicate the museum’s mission and exhibitions to visitors and donors.
Consult and review materials for websites, digital initiatives, press and marketing materials, and education materials. Write and deliver summary reports on projects as needed.
Work with other museum staff, including curators, conservators, educators, and development officers, as well as external stakeholders like artists, scholars, and donors, to support various projects and initiatives.
Conduct in-depth research on the artists and stay up-to-date on industry trends and market developments.
Take part in professional development opportunities, such as attending conferences, workshops, or networking events, to stay current with trends and advancements in the field of art curation.
Perform general administrative duties, such as filing, copying, creating and updating spreadsheets, calendaring meetings, creating meeting minutes, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Assistant and Fellow.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related field.
Some prior museum and/or gallery experience is preferred but not required. (Qualifying internship and/or volunteer experience is acceptable.)
Strong interest in modern and contemporary art, specifically Asian diasporic art and Chinese art.
A global mindset and interest in diverse cultures and perspectives.
Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from diverse sources.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and familiarity with art history databases including, TMS (The Museum System) and Airtable databases, and resources preferred.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
