AV Digitization Internship, Collection Information and Digital Assets (Temporary Part-Time)
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Collection Information and Digital Assets department seeks an upper-level undergraduate or graduate-level intern to support digitization of archival video collections. The CIDA internship position will provide students the opportunity to learn with and shadow CIDA staff, while exploring projects in their areas of interests such as time-based media (TBM) and audiovisual archiving, digital asset management, critical cataloging, and database administration. Depending on their focus, the intern will also be connected with additional staff as appropriate and will have access to the team’s broader network. They will attend CIDA’s weekly departmental meetings with the hope of their active participation and insight in discussions on data and digital strategies and have regular check-ins with their supervisor.
This is a paid internship, 16 hours per week, $17.28 per hour.
Anticipated Internship period: 8 weeks, Approximately Feb.1, 2025-March 30, 2025
The internship is at LACMA’s main campus, fully on-site.
The Intern will gain knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Video digitization (Betacam, Umatic, MiniDV) using best practices for monitoring and capture
- TBM collection conditioning and cataloging
- Use of AV preservation tools for quality control and file format conversion
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- This internship is appropriate for candidates studying library/archival science, video production, art history, history, curatorial or museum studies, and related fields.
